Donate a Brick

Our latest project is under way!

Bookfeeding, together with the community of Kuni Village in the Eastern Cape, South Africa have started the initial stages of building a library within the local school – Kuni Primary School. Members of this community have enthusiastically taken the steps towards realising their dream of having a library by starting the Donate a Brick initiative.

Donate a Brick is described by community member Nomfundo Dlokolo as “a pledge to the civil society, business community, religious organisations, academics and global community at large to come on board in building the library for the Kuni community and it's surrounding villages”.

This project is a ground-breaking mechanism that will introduce learners to resources that will enable them to better position themselves for better career opportunities and to help them in unleashing the potential that has not been tapped yet.”

Due to the capacity of the learners that will be using the library facilities, including learners from the neighbouring villages, we realised that there is a need for a bigger structure.

We appeal to you to do your bit. Donate a brick and help us build a sustainable library for Kuni Primary school.

This initiative pulls together all members of society towards one objective – building a successful library and establishing it as a community education centre for all.

For the past two weeks Nomfundo Dlokolo and Ernest Madolo of the Kuni Community have been distributing flyers throughout the city of East London promoting Donate a Brick to the residents of the city, in addition they have an agreement with a local hardware supplier where brick donations can be made. The cost of one brick in R 9 which is equivalent to €0.5, less than the price on a coffee! Please visit our website to see how you can contribute and help us together with this community make this library a success.

The efforts of this community have been incredible! Especially with the current pandemic forced restrictions and limitations and we as Bookfeeding have been motivated by them and we are even more determined to make the library a reality and working together with the community in running various community development projects at the library.
