This library is currently being constructed, however we already have a large donation of books (Thank you, Rosaline!) and the community is happy to host a volunteer who can speed up the construction a little.

Library serves as a place for learning both formal and informal.The existence of a library in schools and communities is very essential not only in the academic life of the user but also in the socio-cultural, political and economic facts too.

Ampekro Bookfeeding library is about to be the only social amenity in the community. The school and the entire community did not have access to any book until Bookfeeding through the Rural Education Assistance Project (REAP) donated books to the school and the community to start a library.

The library is located in Ghana, in a rural community called Ampekro in the Assin South District in the central region. The library supports a population of about 500 people including people in the surrounding communities. Users of the facility include: learners from both the basic and second cycle schools, tertiary students among others.The building situated at the heart of the community to ensure people have access to it.

The facility is the only social center in the community and have provided them the opportunity to interact with their environment, giving them endless opportunities to know new cultures and experiences, shaping their interpersonal skills and improving their academic performances.

Description of the community

Ampekro, where the Bookfeeding library is located, is in the Assin South district in the central region. It is a rural farming community and serves as a dwelling place for about 500 inhabitants including surrounding communities.The major economic activity in community farming. They grow food crops like cocoa, orange and vegetable crops.The community has one basic school called Ampekro D/A Basic school. It has a total enrollment of about 200 students and 16 teachers. Fante, Ashanti, Twi are the local dialects spoken by the people. A handful of the people speak English.

The Ghanaian spirit of hospitality coupled with a prevailing atmosphere of peace and love make the community a safe haven for all and sun dry especially to foreign nationals.

Volunteers can stay with local families to exchange cultural differences. The community is ready to host any volunteer with open hands.
