Ghana Offinso Bookfeeding

Offinso Locals built a village school for orphans, disabled children and families with little money. The Ghanaian Bookfeeding library is located in this very school. Before the set up of this library, the larger community had no access to books.

The Stepping Stones Academy was built thanks to the efforts of Zacchaeus Nderango Donkor, a local community member, with the help of a European philanthropist. The school focuses on supporting 250 children who would otherwise have difficulties to get access to education.

As the library grows into a social centre for the community, it is also creating a space for grown-ups and children to read, study, or meet with friends. We hope that being surrounded by different books has the potential to improve literacy and provide opportunities to experience new cultures.

Stepping Stones Academy also has a chicken farm on campus in order to raise additional funds for the school and tuition fees for those who cannot afford it.

ZACCHAEUS and SUZANNE

Zacchaeus is responsible for the library and also the director of the school which hosts the Bookfeeding Library. Suzanne, his wife, also takes care of the school and of the big family. They have 2 children: sweet Anne, who is 5, and smiley Oliver, who is 1 year old.As a volunteer you would be staying with the family, so you will get to know them very well. They are very goodhearted people and are always happy to help. Zacchaeus will be your main contact before and during your stay.
