Tanzania Majengo Bookfeeding

Majengo Bookfeeding Project is our latest library in Tanzania. It is located in a small rural community near the town of Moshi. The villagers run a beekeeping project there and the women take part in tailoring classes. This village is very interested in learning new things, expanding their cultural knowledge and continuing to educate their children and themselves.

In this project, we cooperated with TAREO. TAREO is a registered non-governmental, non-profit, non-political and non-religious organization. It was established in 2002 by a group of development professionals with the aim to empower vulnerable, poor and disadvantaged populations in remote villages and mountain regions. Thadei, who is the leading member of the TAREO organization contacted us and applied for a library. On her journey through Africa, Alena, our Bookfeeder, visited Thadei and the community he intended to have the library in. The construction started in January 2019.

The community already participated in a number of projects such as beekeeping, tailoring classes, making reusable sanitary pads or building a chimney solar panel for drying fruits and vegetables. The community is very active and has many women in charge of the rural development projects. This is still a relatively new library, there is a lot of space for creative ideas and know-how sharing with the community for incoming volunteers. Villagers are eager to learn new agricultural practices, kids are excited to learn new languages, read popular stories or learn other useful skills. The number of books is still limited, therefore we ask incoming volunteers to bring books with them! We can also help make arrangements for extra suitcases and provide books from our collection points - contact us if you are interested.

Thadei

Thadei is the man behind Bookfeeding library in Majengo. He worked hard to get us to help him build a library in the community where his wife is from. The people love him and he loves giving back. He is working in Moshi town, where you might be staying if you volunteer at Majengo. His daughter Anettah occasionally steps in for her dad, when he is not around.
