How did Eva enjoy her December in Madagascar?
I spent 3 weeks in the Ambohitrakely library. I was very well received, the people from the association have their hearts in their hands, they are very warm and attentive, as are the villagers who quickly got used to my presence. My days were organised like this: in the morning I prepared the lessons and sometimes I went to read in the nearby schools. Then I opened the library at 2pm when the children had returned from school. In the early afternoon I had the primary classes for 1h30/2h learning French vocabulary through games and books, and then it was just games for them when the older children arrived. From 3.30 pm/4 pm the secondary students arrived, and we did more oral and spelling lessons, and a bit of English. Then on Friday afternoons there were the secondary school students who came because they never have classes on Friday afternoons. We mainly did English. The thing that really limits us is the lighting and electricity, because from 4.30pm onwards you can't see anything in the library as there is no electricity and it gets dark outside soon. It's complicated, especially with the secondary school students who can arrive late, to make the most of the library. Especially as they're the ones who are most in demand. There were often 20/25 children of all ages in the library. I tried to set up courses for adults, and a lot of villagers wanted to learn, but the lack of light in the evenings, where the place was small with all the children and their work schedules, so it was harder to create regulary. I had water easily from the spring and excellent meals morning, noon and night during the week. It was an intense 3 weeks full of love.
