South Africa Polokwane Lisika Unite
Lisika Unite is a first Bookfeeding project library in South Africa. Due to many delays caused among others by the pandemic Covid-19 the shippment of books was delayed to early 2022.
Lisika Unite Public library is located in the community of Eisleben and is freely accessible to the people of Eisleben. Our library provides free services such as preschool story times to encourage early literacy, quiet study and work areas for students and the community in general, or book clubs to encourage appreciation of literature in children and adults.
Our public library is primarily focusing on children, we want to create a space where we can nurture the love of reading and build a community where children have greater opportunities to live like children and social cohesion (ubuntu) allows for child friendly society that helps them realise their full potential.
Our library is a home to a population of more than 5000 children, we will be effectively building the community through their library services. Our library will serve as a conduit to access information and to learn, encourage social inclusion and equity, foster civic engagement, create a bridge to resources and community involvement and promote economic vitality within the community.
Our library will consist of a children section which will be our primary focus, computer room, adults section, silent reading room and activity room.
Through the library we want to give children better access to education and strengthen social cohesion (Ubuntu). Access to education for all should promote equality, support civic engagement and help the children and the community as a whole reach their full potential.
