Uganda Lake Bunyonyi Bookfeeding

Our library on lake Bunyonyi is located at the most beautiful lake in Uganda. Transportation to and from the communities surrounding our library is done by boat or canoe which also makes this library very special. We started building this library in January 2019 and finished in the summer of that same year. We hope it will encourage the youth and children to read and attend school despite the challenges caused by the location of the communities.

On this project, we worked with our local Bookfeeder Isaac. Isaac is the founder of Lake Bunyonyi Eco-Village, an organization registered with the government of Uganda. It is supporting 82 orphans in this community by giving them access to education, basic food supply, and hygiene material (e.g. sanitary pads, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste). The Bookfeeding library is located in Kaguugo Village (Kitooma Parish, Rubaya Sub-County, Kabale District), on the shores of Lake Bunyonyi in Uganda. It lies in the countryside, easily accessible for all of the community by foot and canoe or boat. The library is expected to assist a population size of no less than 4000 people. There are five primary schools and two secondary schools within the community that will greatly benefit from the library. Volunteers are needed and welcomed at this project. They will help Isaac with library activities, plastic recycling and collection, swimming lessons, and possibly taking care of the children that are staying with him at this peaceful eco-village.

Lake Bunyonyi is relatively new and is in need of books. If you plan to visit this library - bring a few with you! Your old books can have a great impact!

Isaac is always smiling. Yes he is Rastafarian, and he does not drink or smoke. He works hard to improve his community, take care of the orphaned children and helps other people to have a good life.
